Synthesis, Spectroscopic, DFT, and Antimicrobial Studies of Mixed Ligand Transition Metal Complexes Derived From Sulpha Drug‐Based Schiff Bases and 2‐Hydroxybenzaldehyde
Jignasa Parmar, Darshan Jani, Nandaniya BansuriABSTRACT
This study successfully achieved the synthesis of novel mixed ligand transition metal coordination compounds through the interaction of 2‐hydroxybenzaldehyde derivatives with Schiff bases derived from sulpha drugs. The primary objective of developing and characterizing biologically active coordination molecules was accomplished. The synthesized ligands and their metal complexes were comprehensively characterized using spectroscopic techniques such as IR, UV–visible, FAB Mass spectroscopy, and 1 H‐NMR, along with elemental analysis, confirming their proposed structures. Furthermore, the in vitro biological evaluation demonstrated that the coordination compounds exhibit promising antibacterial activity against Gram‐positive bacteria ( Bacillus subtilis , Staphylococcus epidermidis ) and Gram‐negative bacteria ( Escherichia coli , Pseudomonas aeruginosa ), along with antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger . Overall, the study establishes the successful development of structurally confirmed and biologically potent transition metal‐based coordination compounds, highlighting their potential for further pharmaceutical exploration.
