Synthesis of silylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by lithium-mediated mechanochemical Birch reductive silylation

Mechanochemical Birch reductive silylation of unfunctionalized PAHs using Li(0) and silyl electrophiles affords diverse silylated PAHs in air at room temperature, with substitution patterns that are difficult to access by conventional methods.
