Synthesis of polymerizable pro-drug monomers through recyclable carboxylic anhydrides

We report a greener synthetic route to polymerizable dipentenoate esters of 17β-estradiol (E2), and of boldine, which are useful precursors to poly(pro-drug) biomaterials of current interest.
