Synthesis of Composite Molecules of a Co 4 O 4 Cubane Complex and Perylenediimide Moieties

Composite molecules consisting of one cubane complex and two perylenediimide moieties were synthesized. The cyclic voltammogram of the molecule exhibited reversible redox waves for oxidation of complex and two‐stage reduction of the perylenediimide moieties. The emission spectrum in a solution revealed strongly quenched fluorescence of perylenediimide, which suggests intramolecular electron transfer from to the excited perylenediimide. The approach presented here will be a valuable guide for the synthesis of organic/inorganic hybrid molecules, which should open a new field of unexplored molecular materials.
