Synthesis of 1,1′‐Biaryl‐5,5′‐Bis‐1,2,3‐Triazoles by t ‐BuOK‐Promoted Reactions of 1,4‐Bis(trimethylsilyl)butadiyne With Aryl Azides and Their Conversion to 3H

A method has been developed for facile synthesis of novel symmetric 1,1′‐biaryl‐5,5′‐bis‐1,2,3‐triazoles, using a process involving potassium tert ‐butoxide ( t ‐BuOK) promoted reaction of 1,4‐bis(trimethylsilyl)butadiyne (BTMSBD) with arylazides. The transformation, which takes place by sequential desilylation/cyclization steps, produces the corresponding bis‐1,2,3‐triazoles in moderate to excellent yields. A Pd‐catalyzed intramolecular oxidative CC coupling reaction has been developed to convert the 1,1′‐biaryl‐5,5′‐bis‐1,2,3‐triazoles to the respective 3H ‐bis‐1,2,3‐triazoloquinolines.
