Abstract

Bone exostosis is considered a bone defect that occurs in specific areas of the bone. Exostosis is the growth of abnormal protrusions on the bones and has several types. One of the types of exostoses is what grows in the mouth in the jaws, where the membrane around the tooth is formed by cementoblasts from a mass of secondary cementum on the root of the tooth. This case involves the surgical removal of a bony exostosis in the lower jaw of a 65-year-old Syrian patient. The patient complained of a protrusion in the lower jaw that was hindering tooth replacement. A lingual flap technique was used to access the bone and remove the mass. The flap was repositioned and secured with silk threads, and the surgical site was covered with medication. This procedure allowed for future dental interventions, such as tooth replacement. The success of the surgery was revealed after the patient visited clinics during different periods. This case involved a patient from Syria who presented with a concern about a 1-cm bony growth in their lower jaw. A lingual flap technique was utilized to effectively excise the exostosis during the surgery, as demonstrated by the images taken before, during, and after the procedure. The histological analysis confirmed the presence of a notable bone exostosis, validating the successful outcome of the treatment administered at the university clinics.
