Supramolecular Assembly and Polymerization of d8 and d10 Transition Metal Complexes

Eric Ka-Ho Wong, Vivian Wing-Wah Yam

There have been tremendous research interests in the investigation of the supramolecular assembly and polymerization of d8 and d10 transition metal complexes. Because of their intriguing spectroscopic and luminescence properties, associated with the extent of metal–metal interactions and the degree of the assembly in the system, these metal complexes are distinct from the pure organic and d6 transition metal systems. In this chapter, an overview on the supramolecular assembly and polymerization of platinum(ii), palladium(ii), gold(iii), rhodium(i) and gold(i) complexes will be given. With rational molecular design and proper characterization of the self-assemblies, a better understanding of the structure–property relationship can be provided, which is vital for the development of multi-functional materials.
