Subtotal occlusion of the left main coronary artery in a six-week-pregnant 27-year-old woman
D. Keller, Ch. Kaiser, S. Osswald, M. Pfisterer, P. BuserAcute myocardial infarction during pregnancy or in the puerperium is usually a fatal condition and has been described in several casereports. Aetiology remains unclear, pathology may be explained by acute coronary artery dissection, thrombosis or spasm. We report a young woman who developed exercise-induced angina pectoris during early pregnancy. Coronary angiography revealed subtotal occlusion of the left main coronary artery without angiographic evidence for dissection or thrombosis. The aetiology of this pathology remains unclear. A stent was placed successfully, and control coronary angiography in the week 28 of pregnancy showed a good result without evidence for instent-restenosis in a now asymptomatic patient.
