In 1951, the characters of Trueman and Lovewit met to debate matters theatrical in Robertson Davies’s A Dialogue on the State of the Theatre in Canada , published in what has become known as the Massey Report. Its recommendations led to the founding of the Canada Council and the policy regime that shaped the institutions and the cultural hierarchies of professionalized theatre. But time changes culture in unexpected ways. Now Trueman and Lovewit, older and crankier, have found one another on Facebook.
