State-Selective Electron Capture in Ne10H(n=2) Collisions: A Z-CTMC Study++*

We investigate single-electron capture in collisions between bare Ne10+ ions and hydrogen atoms initially prepared in the n=2 excited state. Total and principal-quantum-number-resolved capture cross-sections are calculated with the classical-trajectory Monte Carlo method in its standard form and in the Z-variant, over the collision-energy range 1–300 keV/u. The results are compared with available atomic-orbital close-coupling data. The two classical approaches exhibit similar energy dependence for the total capture cross sections, while differences become more relevant for capture into highly excited states, particularly at low collision energies. Oscillatory structures observed in the n-state-selective cross-sections are analyzed in terms of contributions from trajectories involving different numbers of electron saddle-point crossings. This analysis reveals distinct low-energy contributions from the one- and multiple-swap mechanisms in the two classical descriptions and helps explain the closer agreement of the Z-variant with atomic-orbital close-coupling for selected high-n channels. The present results provide state-selective electron-capture data for an experimentally unexplored collision system of relevance to charge-exchange recombination spectroscopy.
