Standardization of Pre-sowing Treatments for Acacia millifera (Vahl.) Benth. Seeds

Three scarifications methods, viz., hot water treatment, acid treatment and sand scarification were tried to break the dormancy (seed coat) for softening the seed coat of Acacia mellifera seeds. Among the treatments tried acid treatment for 10 minutes proved to be the best, which recorded higher germination, increased root length, shoot length and vigour. Alternative to acid method sand scarification can also be recommended for the softening of the seed coat of Acacia mellifera.
