Sport and Human Rights

Daniela Heerdt, Ryan Gauthier
Over recent decades, a sport and human rights movement has grown in response to concerns about how sport is played and governed, on and off the field. Sport can advance rights, but it can also place them at risk. This book maps the connections between sport and human rights, from the grassroots to the highest levels of competition. It examines safeguarding programs to protect athletes from abuse, discrimination in sport, and other human rights issues, including freedom of expression, employment rights, and children’s rights. Real-life case studies illustrate these risks and opportunities, making the book accessible to anyone interested in the sport–human rights nexus.
