Relative to uniform Cd exposure, spatially heterogeneous exposure recruits complementary soybean root‐sector functions: the high‐Cd sector concentrates Cd entry and defence, whereas the low‐Cd sector sustains nitrate acquisition and shows shoot‐connection‐dependent Cd efflux, together reducing whole‐plant Cd toxicity.
