Solid aneurysmal bone cyst of the cervical spine presenting as vertebra plana in an adolescent: A case report and review of literature

The solid variant of aneurysmal bone cyst (S-ABC) is a rare benign but locally aggressive bone tumor. Multilevel spinal involvement and presentation as vertebra plana is extremely uncommon. We report a case of 13-year-old female who presented with neck pain and upper limb radiculopathy. Imaging demonstrated pathological collapse of C7 with vertebral plana and extension to C6. After histopathological confirmation of S-ABC, the patient was managed with staged surgical procedures. This case highlights that vertebra plana can be a rare and misleading presentation of spinal S-ABC. It emphasizes the importance of considering this benign but aggressive lesion in the differential diagnosis of vertebra plana in the pediatric cervical spine.
