Soil Amendment Plinth: A Prototype for Support
Amanda White, Kirsty RoberstonThe “soil amendment plinth” is a concept and prototype that emerged over several conversations between Amanda White and Kirsty Robertson, in which we discussed how galleries and museums are traditionally unfriendly to the porous, messy nature of artworks that include living things. Here we are imagining an appropriate support for artworks that are compostable and purposefully impermanent, constructed from materials that are well known soil amendments. As we document the development and disintegration of this plinth, we consider how art objects and their support structures can also support environmental health, and the living soils in their environs.
