Background
One of the most important indicators of a healthy life is quality of life (QoL), which is particularly significant across different populations, especially among older adults. This study aimed to identify social factors influencing the quality of life in older adults.
Methods
Articles published on the social factors affecting the QoL of the elderly were identified through a systematic search using relevant keywords in the Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and ProQuest databases, without time restrictions, covering studies published up to August 2, 2025, in accordance with the PRISMA guideline. The data were analyzed using framework analysis.
Results
Among the 1142 articles retrieved from databases, 59 articles were extracted. The social factors affecting the QoL of the elderly were classified into six main components based on the Active Ageing framework. participation and performance in social activities, marital status and type of residence, higher education, life satisfaction and resilience, good health, and outdoor exercise were the most frequent in the main components of social determinants, personal determinants, economic determinants, behavioral determinants, health and social services, and physical environment, respectively.
Conclusion
Social determinants play a vital role in enhancing the QoL among older adults. Therefore, greater attention should be given to these factors, along with creating appropriate conditions that facilitate older adults' participation in social activities and access to necessary support services.
