Dejana Jovanovic-Popovic, Ivan Samardzic, Irena SimicSmart tourism is a new catchphrase used to describe the increasing dependence of tourism destinations, industries and tourists on evolving forms of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The new ICT, or the Internet of Things and emerging Internet of Nano-Things is gaining enormous popularity in the world of modern wireless telecommunications that allow for massive quantities of data to be transformed into value propositions. The paper defines smart tourism, sheds light on current smart tourism trends, and then lays out its technological benefits and prospects as well as potential risks. The paper further draws attention to both international and national projects regarding smart tourism in the EU and Serbia.
