Skin Impression Modeling Across Different Skin Types Under Different Scenes

This paper presents a comprehensive study investigating how facial skin colors influence various impressions across different ethnicities and under different scenes. The data consists of 700 images featuring 20 models under 35 distinct conditions: 21 laboratory settings (covering seven correlated color temperatures [CCT] at three illuminance levels) and 14 real‐scene environments. The models represent four ethnic groups and both genders. They were selected to cover a full range of skin lightness levels. Each model was rendered into 32 chromatic variations. A psychophysical experiment was conducted with 20 Chinese observers, who rated the images based on 10 impressions: Preference, Attractiveness, Feminine, Cooperative, Youth, Healthy, Fidelity, Harmony, Fair, and Ruddy. The results were used to establish a 50% acceptability ellipse model for each impression scale across the 35 conditions. The center of each ellipse represents the impression of the strongest intensity, such as most healthy. The effects of these skin colors on model ethnicities, impression scales, and scene are reported.
