Single‐Layer Dual‐Polarised SIW Slot Antenna

Amir Jafargholi, Romain Fleury

ABSTRACT

Decreasing the permittivity of a dielectric‐loaded slotted waveguide antenna (SWA) results in increases in both impedance and radiation bandwidth, especially when the dielectric permittivity falls below unity. This concept is employed to resolve the inherently resonant nature of SIW slot antennas and to introduce a broadband, single‐layer, dual‐polarised antenna. This approach not only resolves cost and alignment challenges typically associated with multi‐layer structures but also addresses the rising demand for broadband dual‐polarised antennas, making it a promising candidate for practical applications. The measured impedance bandwidth ( dB) is 13.8%, covering wireless 5G applications in the frequency range of 24.2–27.8 GHz. The radiation efficiency exceeds 90%, providing at least 6.0 dBi gain through the entire frequency band.
