Single Versus Dual Therapy for Diabetic Gastroparesis

Gastroparesis is a disorder of gastric motility hallmarked by nausea, vomiting and early satiety. While dietary and medical therapy are the mainstay of treatment, surgery has been useful to palliate symptoms. Two long-used first line surgical therapies for gastroparesis are gastric electrical stimulation and pyloric procedures (including pyloroplasty and pyloromyotomy). This manuscript will focus on the use of these surgical modalities, both separately and in combination, to treat refractory gastroparesis symptoms in patients with diabetes.
