Single‐stage boost inverters with dual outputs have recently gained considerable interest in different applications due to their high efficiency and compactness. This paper proposes a simplified dual‐output boost inverter (SDBI) topology to generate two ac outputs from a low‐voltage DC source. The proposed topology uses seven active switches, one boosting inductor and one DC‐link capacitor, achieving a reduced component count within the considered class of single‐stage, single‐DC‐source, single‐phase dual‐output boost inverters. It generates output voltages with a continuous input DC‐current in a single‐stage boosting operation. An appropriate flat top‐bottom level‐shifted modulation scheme is formulated to generate three‐level PWM outputs in common frequency and different frequency modes. This scheme achieves lower input current ripple and lower numbers of switching commutations compared to similar topologies, which reduces the overall inverter losses. The proposed topology is thoroughly evaluated and compared with similar existing topologies, and its performance is assessed from various perspectives. The modulation scheme is modelled in MATLAB/PLECS and is favourably implemented using ePWM modules of TI‐F28379D LaunchPad MCU, without any additional hardware logic circuits. Simulation and experimental studies demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed inverter.
