Sharenting in the Digital Age: Navigating Between Exposure, Risk and Protection

Sharenting is motivated by social connection, parental pride, identity expression and sometimes financial gain. Sharenting is more common among influencer families. Sharenting can foster community it also raises concerns such as privacy violations, identity theft, cyberbullying, and permanent digital footprints created without the child's consent. This review examines the motivations behind sharenting and its potential impact on the psychological and social aspects of children. It also highlights the gap between evolving digital behaviour and limited legal protections for children's digitalrights. The article explores the current researches and advocates for enhanced parental digital literacy, privacy-aware sharing, child-inclusive decision-making, and stronger policy frameworks to protect children's autonomy and well-being.
