Rupanagudi Unesha Fareq

For older people, the kitchen is an integral component of their daily routine and one of the primary sites of family life. The purpose of the study was to identify the features, design requirements, and associations that older people have with the kitchens in their homes. The study's sample consists of sixty elderly women from Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh. Self-structured interview cum observation schedule was developed for the study keeping in view the kitchen guidelines. According to the study findings, most of the current kitchen's work counters are situated at the proper height. Most of the homes had floor coverings, exhaust fans, and lighting fixtures that complied with architectural standards. The majority of the study sample favored a kitchen that adhered exactly to the design guidelines. The elderly considered convenient accessibility to be the most important design element. The findings showed that, in accordance with the guidelines, kitchens designed by families with relatively high incomes and socioeconomic status had enough storage space under counters, shelves positioned at the proper height, space for wall-hung fixtures and exhaust fans, and direct access to multiple rooms.
