Self-care practices among social workers in Vietnam: The role of psychological and contextual factors
Thuy Bich Luong, Lam Quang Truong, Trang Huyen Thi Pham, Lan Thi Nguyen, Trang Thu NguyenThis study examined self-care practices and associated factors among social workers in Vietnam. A cross-sectional survey of 400 social workers was conducted, and hierarchical regression analysis assessed the contributions of sociodemographic, work-related, psychological, and contextual factors. Self-care was practiced at a moderate level and varied across domains. Psychological and contextual resources, particularly self-efficacy, compassion satisfaction, active learning, and perceived social support, were significant predictors, whereas sociodemographic and occupational characteristics showed limited associations. Compassion fatigue became significant after psychological and contextual factors were considered. These findings highlight self-care as a multidimensional process shaped by individual resources and supportive work environments.
