This article provides psychiatry registrars with a structured approach to selecting an appropriate patient for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Psychotherapy Written Case summative assessment.
Conclusions
Thoughtful patient selection is crucial to achieving both a positive clinical outcome and a meaningful therapeutic experience for both patient and registrar. This article presents a structured framework based on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to guide patient selection, enhancing the likelihood of a successful psychotherapeutic process.
