This study proposes a novel flange widened bone shaped semi rigid frame joint. Taking a 4 story frame as an example, the finite element software Abaqus is used to analyse its seismic performance under different seismic waves, and the results are compared with those of a traditional rigidly connected frame. The analysis shows that, compared with the traditional rigid jointed frame, the new jointed frame exhibits a controllable plastic mechanism, improved ductility, and effective prevention of brittle failure under seismic excitation. Moreover, the maximum base shear force of the new frame is lower than that of the traditional rigid frame, which helps to disperse and dissipate seismic energy more efficiently and enhances the overall structural stability. Furthermore, the elastic plastic interstory drift angle remains below 1/50 under rare earthquake conditions, meeting the requirements of the current design code and achieving the target of “no collapse under major earthquakes”. In addition, the proposed joint can improve the safety and reliability of the structure in practical engineering applications.
