SDG3 (Good Health and Well-being) in Health Professions Education: Case Studies from the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, Bond University, Australia

Michelle McLean, Charlotte Phelps, Christian Moro, Louise van Herwerden, Susan Brandis

The United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) need to be turbocharged to progress a sustainable and equitable future for all. This chapter describes four case studies from an Australian university regarding educational interventions to advance SDG3 ‘Good Health and Well-being’: in Medicine, an assignment in which students choose an SDG to complement SDG3; in Physiology, an approach incorporating planetary health; in Nutrition and Dietetics (N&D) Practice, a food citizenship community partnership; and in Occupational Therapy (OT) Practice, a sustainability lens applied to a lifestyle programme for pre-frail adults. Learning activities in health professions education (HPE) that address SDG3 allow educators to promote this goal alongside other SDGs given their interrelated nature.
