Screening of Thermophilic Bacteria for the Production of Enzymes
K. P. Aisha, P. P. DixitThermophilic bacteria are valuable sources of thermo-stable enzymes with having wide range of Industrial applications. In present study, thermophilic bacteria were isolated from hot spring water samples collected from Pali, District Raigad, (Maharashtra).. The samples were serially diluted and incubated at elevated temperatures to recover heat-tolerant bacterial isolates. Pure cultures were obtained and screened for the production of amylase, protease, and cellulase enzymes using agar plate diffusion assays, followed by quantitative enzyme estimation under submerged fermentation conditions. The selected isolates exhibited varying levels of hydrolytic enzyme production, with several strains demonstrating promising enzymatic activity. The results indicated that hot spring derived thermophilic bacteria represent a valuable source for the production of thermostable enzymes and may have considerable potential for future biotechnological and industrial applications.
