Scope, Extent, and Forms of Abuse

Abstract

This chapter provides definitions and statistics about the scope and extent of domestic and dating violence. It also discusses the many types of abuse, including emotional, verbal, physical, sexual, financial, and cyber or technology-facilitated abuse. Additionally, the chapter describes the dynamics of abusive relationships. It also reviews the signs of lethality in abusive relationships and the role of firearms in these cases. Finally, the chapter examines the challenges victims face in trying to leave abusers.
