Scattering Length-Dependent Optimization of Transmission and Reflection in Opaque Media
Benjamin R. Anderson, Hergen EilersWe measure the effect of varying the mean free path on the optimization of transmission and reflection in opaque media. We find that the intensity enhancement depends strongly on the sample’s mean free path, with the transmissive enhancement increasing with MFP while the reflective enhancement decreases with MFP. These results conflict with the random matrix theory prediction of the enhancement only depending on the number of controlled modes. We propose that this conflict arises due to realistic samples violating the assumptions behind the random matrix theory prediction. Additionally, these results can help to optimize experimental design in future experiments involving wavefront shaping controlled optical transport in opaque media.
