Sales Management: From Core to New Scopes and Strategy in the Digital Era

N. Cigdem Uluc

Abstract

The core requirements of effective sales management are planning and strategy while being equally competent with the salesforce management by setting performance and internal controls. In parallel, there must be a clear analysis of markets. Today, the technology integration by digital transformation has brought a different base to the role of sales management. The digital customer relationship management tools like most common being salesforce, HubSpot, and Power BI are all used in most of the commercial companies, where these platforms provide a comprehensive suite for tracking sales, marketing, and service activities, enabling the visibility of the customer-buying journey. In parallel, in our continuously digitalizing and changing business environments, organizations analyze and work to implement the most suitable service model, which can be service-based, customer-based, or multilevel models, to optimize their operations while improving customer satisfaction and profitability. As technology evolves, many companies work on the implementation of hybrid models depending on the company goals, industry dynamics, market conditions, and the customer needs. Digitalization is also effective on improving the diversity and inclusion in organizations. The technology proves clearly that it can align people via discussion platforms for “connected teams”. Today sales planning and budgeting are also supported by digital tools streamlining these processes for faster and more accurate outcomes. The other core pillars in the sales management such as forecasting, opportunity tracking, value propositioning, and negotiation are also enhanced by digital platforms with optimized competitive and customer-centric solutions.
