Aim:

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a prevalent sexual health issue affecting up to 31% of men, with an anticipated 322 million cases projected worldwide by 2025. While conventional therapies may cause adverse effects and provide temporary symptomatic relief, homeopathy may offer a cost-effective and safer therapeutic option. The investigators aimed to detect the role of individualized homeopathic medicines (IHMs) in the treatment of ED in adults.

Methods:

A nonrandomized, noncontrolled, single-arm, clinical study was conducted on 36 participants with ED with the intervention of IHMs along with concomitant care. The primary outcome was the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF); the secondary outcomes were the Male Sexual Health Questionnaire (MSHQ) and the Measure Yourself Medical Outcome Profile-2 (MYMOP-2) profile scores, assessed at baseline and monthly, up to 3 months. An intention-to-treat approach was applied to detect intra-group changes.

Results:

After 3 months of intervention, intra-group changes were statistically and clinically significant (all P < 0.001); IIEF ( F 1, 34 = 96.617, partial η 2 = 0.898, P < 0.001), MSHQ ( F 1, 34 = 86.728 partial η 2 = 0.887, P < 0.001), and MYMOP-2 profile score ( F 1, 34 = 236.828, partial η 2 = 0.956, P < 0.001). Twenty-four different homeopathic medicines were prescribed; Nux vomica being the most common, followed by Phosphoricum acidum, Sulphur, and Thuja occidentalis. No adverse events were recorded.

Conclusion:

IHMs resulted in a significant improvement in ED over 3 months of intervention. Further exploration is warranted with randomized trials.
