Matthew Birdsey, Shine Wang, Keshav Khullar ABSTRACT
Objective
To explore the diagnostic performance of the pregnancy adapted YEARS algorithm applied to an Australian patient population with concurrent evaluation of its efficacy towards scan reduction.
Methods
The pregnancy adapted YEARS algorithm was applied to pregnant patients retrospectively at this single site study to determine a theoretical pathway in comparison to actual management.
Results
Of 119 included patients, six (5%) had pulmonary emboli (PE). Retrospective application of the pregnancy‐adapted YEARS algorithm missed no PE diagnosis. Theoretical application would have resulted in an 11.7% reduction in total CTPA and V/Q scans performed.
Conclusions
Our study supports the diagnostic performance benefits of the pregnancy adapted YEARS algorithm and can potentially reduce unnecessary imaging.
