Research Trends on Sugarcane Bagasse Fiber in Construction Materials: A Bibliometric Analysis
Haidee Yulady Jaramillo, Maryi Tatiana Cardenas Gómez, Nasly Daniela Cortés Becerra, Robin Zuluaga GallegoSugarcane bagasse fiber has attracted increasing attention as a sustainable reinforcement for construction materials due to its widespread availability, low cost, and lignocellulosic composition. However, the scientific development of this field has not yet been comprehensively evaluated through bibliometric analysis. The aim of this study was to conduct a bibliometric analysis of 124 documents retrieved from the Scopus database on the use of sugarcane bagasse fiber in construction, published between 2003 and 2026. To this end, R (version 4.5.2), run in RStudio, with bibliometrix (version 5.4.1) through its Biblioshiny interfacewas employed to analyze scientific production indicators, publication sources, prominent institutions, collaboration networks, citation impact, and keyword co-occurrence. The results reveal a sustained growth in scientific output, exhibiting a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 15.09% for the period between 2003 and 2025. While research has predominantly focused on mechanical performance, particularly compressive strength, areas such as durability, thermal performance, and microstructural characterization have emerged as increasingly important themes. These findings provide a comprehensive overview of the field’s evolution, identify main research gaps, and offer valuable guidance for future studies on sustainable construction materials reinforced with sugarcane bagasse fiber.
