Research Progress on High‐Temperature Mechanical Properties of FeCrAl Alloys for Nuclear Fuel Cladding

Tang Liping, Xiong Yi, Li Yong, Deng xiao, Ren Fengzhang, Sun Hongying

FeCrAl alloys have emerged as one of the most promising candidates for Accident Tolerant Fuel (ATF) cladding due to their outstanding high‐temperature steam oxidation resistance, superior irradiation tolerance, high mechanical strength, and excellent creep resistance. However, their engineering application is still limited by critical challenges, including high‐temperature strength degradation, irradiation embrittlement, and insufficient understanding of synergistic effects under complex service environments. This article provides a comprehensive review of recent progress in the high‐temperature mechanical properties of FeCrAl alloys, focusing on the effects of alloy composition, heat treatment, and service conditions on their elevated‐temperature performance. Existing research has established a fundamental relationship between processing, microstructure, service environment, and mechanical behavior. Nevertheless, further research is required to clarify degradation mechanisms under more realistic reactor conditions, such as high‐dose irradiation, multi‐field coupling, and complex atmospheres, and to develop cross‐scale predictive models to support their reliable engineering application.
