Research progress of overhead conductors with carbon fiber composite core

It is the preferred product for large span, large capacity transmission and capacity improvement lines. However, due to the limitations of structure and material properties, this conductor has some technical problems, such as poor bending performance and lack of effective means to diagnose defects in the core. The development of carbon fiber composite core overhead conductors is introduced, and the structures and properties of different types of conductors are analyzed. It is pointed out that using multi-strand core instead of single core is an effective means to improve the bending performance of the conductor. By implanting optical fiber in the composite core and using the optical fiber as a sensor, the internal defects in the core can be diagnosed. In addition, from the perspective of environmental protection, the multi-strand thermoplastic composite core conductor is expected to achieve great development in this field in the future.
