Polyethylene surface modification addresses its poor wettability and bonding issues due to low surface energy and chemical inertness. Primary methods include physical treatments (corona, plasma, irradiation), chemical modifications (grafting, oxidation), and blending. These techniques introduce polar groups or alter surface topography to enhance hydrophilicity, adhesion, and add functionalities like antibacterial properties. Effectiveness is assessed via surface analysis, contact angle, morphology, and performance tests. Such advancements expand polyethylene's use in composites and biomedical materials. Future trends aim for greener, more precise, and intelligent modification technologies to achieve durable and controllable surface functionalization.
