Abstract

This appendix offers an account of the research design underpinning this study. It traces the intellectual journey and the development of research objectives and methodological choices. The chapter, then, details analytical methods, including typological theorising, case study process tracing, and illustrative examples, alongside strategies for data collection, such as through archival research, interviews, and observations. Emphasis is placed on reflecting on triangulation procedures and on reflexivity regarding positionality and ethics. By documenting decisions, challenges, and adaptations, the appendix aims to help the reader contextualise this study and, more generally, demystify research processes, arguing that transparency and critical reflection can enrich qualitative research and foster cumulative knowledge.
