After describing the history of remote sensing at the Faculty of Natural Resources Management at Lakehead University, the paper presents an overview of the remote sensing projects currently underway. They include: 1) fuel moisture mapping using synthetic aperture radar (SAR) polarimetric images from ALOS-2-PALSAR on mountainous forests; 2) testing deep learning algorithms to detect tree health on multispectral images acquired with unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) cameras; 3) Use of Sentinel-1 and -2 images for woodland caribou habitat and wetland mapping; and 4) animal behaviour using UAV RGB images.
