This study aimed to examine the relationship between anxiety and kinesiophobia in individuals receiving continuous hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis (PD) therapy. This cross-sectional study included 109 patients receiving renal replacement therapy (hemodialysis and PD) and 105 healthy individuals. The Beck Anxiety Inventory and Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia were applied to the participants. The Beck anxiety and Tampa kinesiophobia scores of the patient group were significantly higher than those of the healthy group ( P  < .001 and P  < .001, respectively). No significant difference was found between the hemodialysis and PD groups in terms of anxiety ( P  = .194). Tampa scores were statistically higher in the PD group than in the hemodialysis group ( P  < .001). Anxiety was significantly elevated in individuals receiving dialysis treatment, and kinesiophobia scores were significantly higher in those with elevated anxiety levels. Both variables were also more pronounced in PD patients compared to HD patients in terms of kinesiophobia, while anxiety did not differ significantly between modalities. Identifying the factors associated with kinesiophobia in these patients may inform targeted rehabilitation strategies.
