‘S17‐17168HP’ (Reg. no. CV‐572, PI 710417) is a high‐protein late Maturity Group IV (relative maturity of 4.8), conventional soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] cultivar developed and released in 2022 by the University of Missouri‐Fisher Delta Research, Extension, and Education Center. S17‐17168HP has white flowers, gray pubescence, brown pod walls, and a determinate growth habit. Seed of S17‐17168HP has a buff hilum and intermediate seed luster. From 2018 to 2022, S17‐17168HP was tested in 34 environments across eight states: Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Across 34 environments, S17‐17168HP yielded 108.7% of the non‐Xtend check mean, 94.7% of the Xtend check mean, and 108.9% of the test mean. It averaged 374 g kg −1 protein content on a 13% moisture basis, with a weighted‐average meal protein concentration of 498 g kg −1 estimated on a dry‐weight basis. Seed protein content of S17‐17168HP was consistently higher than that of both conventional and dicamba herbicide‐tolerant soybean checks. In addition, S17‐17168HP possesses two resistance genes, Rhg1‐a and Rhg4 , which confer resistance to soybean cyst nematode race 3 (HG Type 7). As a primary driver of soybean's economic value, the elevated meal protein concentration and competitive yield of S17‐17168HP make it a promising cultivar, especially for the animal feed industry.
