Abstract

The soybean [ Glycine max (L.) Merr.] breeding program at the University of Missouri‐Fisher Delta Research, Extension, and Education Center has developed and released ‘S16‐13165’ (Reg. no. CV‐571, PI710416). It is a conventional, non‐GM, Maturity Group IV soybean germplasm (Relative Maturity 4.8). S16‐13165 was evaluated across 99 environments in seven states between 2017 and 2024. Across multi‐environment yield trials, S16‐13165 exhibited competitive and stable performance, yielding 96% of the check average and 104% of the non‐Xtend check average, with strong regional adaptation in southern environments. In drought‐specific trials across four states (from 2021 to 2024), S16‐13165 demonstrated superior performance under both irrigated and rainfed conditions, with average yields of 4417 and 3302 kg ha −1 , respectively, along with a moderate canopy wilting score, indicating a favorable drought‐stress response and yield stability across environments. Moreover, it showed strong resistance to soybean cyst nematode (HG Types 1.2.5.7, 0, and 2.5.7), along with complete resistance to southern stem canker. These performance metrics indicate that S16‐13165 is a broadly adapted soybean germplasm with strong drought adaptation, competitive yield, and resistance to major abiotic stresses.
