Abstract

‘S12‐1362’ (Reg. no GP‐554, PI709600) is an F 4 ‐derived maturity group V conventional soybean [ Glycine max (L.) Merr.] germplasm with enhanced flood tolerance at the early reproductive R1–R2 growth stages. This germplasm was released by the University of Missouri‐Fisher Delta Research, Extension, and Education Center in 2025. S12‐1362 was derived from the cross S05‐11482 × RIL 159 (S99‐2281 × PI 408105A) and carries two flood‐tolerant quantitative trait loci (QTLs) inherited from PI 408105A. S12‐1362 has an indeterminate growth habit, a white flower, tawny pubescence, and tan pod wall color. Its seed has a yellow cotyledon, intermediate luster, and a black hilum. Irrigated yield trials in 26 environments indicated that S12‐1362 has high seed yield potential, providing105%, 86%, and 103% of the check's means on clay (3775 kg ha −1 ), loam (3839 kg ha −1 ), and sandy soil (3827 kg ha −1 ) environments, respectively. Under flooding conditions, S12‐1362 outperformed the checks in 4‐year flood yield trials on a zero‐grade, poorly drained, heavy clay soil (1389 kg ha −1 ), exceeding the mean yields of the commercial checks (605 kg ha −1 ) and that of the flood‐susceptible check (411 kg ha −1 ). This germplasm line carries two QTLs for flood tolerance, on chromosomes 3 and 13, from PI 408105A. Given its elite background and improved flood tolerance, S12‐1362 can serve as a promising donor line for breeding high‐yielding, flood‐tolerant soybean varieties.
