Registration of Arkot 1410, Arkot 1414a, and Arkot 1414b cotton germplasm lines

Arkot 1410 (Reg. no. GP‐1174, PI 709150), Arkot 1414a (Reg. no. GP‐1175, PI 709151), and Arkot 1414b (Reg. no. GP‐1176, PI 709152) are conventional cotton ( Gossypium hirsutum L.) germplasm lines released by the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station in 2025. Arkot 1410 was derived from a cross of Arkot 0305 and MD25‐87. The two Arkot 1414 lines were derived from crossing UA48 with an undisclosed industry line. In replicated field tests at three Arkansas sites over 4 years, lint yields of the three new lines exceeded those of UA48 and were equal to those of UA222. Wide adaptation of the lines was indicated by high lint yields of lines in the 2022 Regional Breeders Testing Network test. Across 14 locations, Arkot 1414a, Arkot 1410, and Arkot 1414b produced the first‐, second‐, and third‐, respectively, highest average lint yields of 27 entries. Arkot 1410 and Arkot 1414b displayed high resistance to bacterial blight. Compared with UA222, Arkot 1410 and Arkot 1414b appeared to possess equal or higher resistance to tarnished plant bugs, while Arkot 1414a was less resistant. All three lines and UA48 showed earlier maturation than UA222. Plant (leaf, stem, and bract) trichomes varied among the lines, with Arkot 1410 being more like UA48, while both Arkot 1414 lines were more like UA222. Yield component values of the three new lines tended to be intermediate between those of UA222 and UA48. The fiber quality of Arkot 1414b approached that of UA48, while the fiber quality of the other two was intermediate between those of UA222 and UA48.
