Rediscovery of the Iranian endemic genus Gyrocraspedum Becker (Diptera: Bombyliidae), with notes on its phylogenetic placement

The genus Gyrocraspedum Becker is re-described based on newly collected material from northern Iran. Illustrations of the genitalia of its monotypic species, Gyrocraspedum pleskei Becker are provided. The status of the genus within the subfamily Cythereinae is examined for the first time using a morphological phylogenetic analysis, which supports a monophyletic grouping with its closely related genus Cytherea Fabricius.
