Reconstruction of a Base of Fifth Metacarpal Tumor Using the Dubert Procedure: A Case Report

A 63-year-old right-hand-dominant man was referred for reconstruction following intralesional resection of a myopericytic neoplasm of the base of the left fifth metacarpal. He experienced multiple local recurrences and following serial curettage and placement of calcium phosphate graft, he eventually underwent resection of the base of the fifth metacarpal. To prevent subsidence of the fifth metacarpal while maintaining motion, the fifth metacarpal shaft was fused to the fourth metacarpal shaft with autogenous bone graft. The metacarpals fused, with good motion and grip strengths at the 6-month follow-up visit. This demonstrates that stability can be maintained without sacrificing motion after tumor excision.
