The technology for simultaneous purification of multiple pollutants in gases has received extensive attention. CO selective catalytic reduction (CO‐SCR) denitration is a widely studied technology for the synergistic removal of NO x and CO. However, the preferential reaction between CO and O 2 under oxygen‐rich conditions diminishes the denitration efficiency. To achieve the efficient mitigation of NO x and CO in oxygen‐rich environments, researchers have proposed a technology of simultaneously NH 3 ‐SCR denitration and CO oxidation. This review summarizes the reaction mechanisms and recent advances in precious‐metal‐based and metal‐oxide catalysts for the simultaneous removal of NO x and CO. Additionally, the paper discusses the effects of water vapor and sulfur dioxide in the reaction environment on the catalytic activity of bifunctional catalysts, emphasizing that modifying the interactions between metal species can enhance the catalyst's resistance to sulfur and water. Finally, the future prospects for the development of bifunctional catalysts are discussed. And we hope this paper provides important theoretical and practical guidance for the development of synergistic NO and CO removal technologies in the future, offering valuable insights for global atmospheric pollution control.
