Re-examining the Pelvicalyceal System of Human Adult Kidney

Purvi Mishra, Shweta Shambharkar

This review article offers a comprehensive examination of the pelvicalyceal system of the human adult kidney, encompassing its anatomy, imaging modalities, and clinical implications. This review aims to provide a holistic understanding of the pelvicalyceal system, catering to clinicians, interventional urologists, radiologists, and researchers involved in renal health care. A broad search of articles in various databases, such as Google Scholar and PubMed, was performed for the articles published manually. Relevant previously published articles were selected and studied. Books and chapters in books were also examined. The classification of renal pelvis and pelvicalyceal patterns has evolved, with each study contributing valuable insights into renal anatomy. Clinicians and anatomists can use these classifications to understand normal variation better and diagnose renal abnormalities effectively.
