Rainfall Pattern of Jalaun (UP) – An Statistical Aspect

The data on rainfall from 1955-77 for a period of 17 years were analysed. It was found that most of the rainfall is received during 4 months, accounting 86.85% of the total rainfall and 10.81% in October to January. The variability in rainy months was to the extent of 56.25%. Of the average annual rainfall of 858.87 mm, the contribution of the month of June, July, August and September were, 50.65, 225.22, 319.98 and 150.17 mm respectively. The average number of rainy days has been found to be 43 and average rainfall per rainy day was 14.71 mm. the average number of rainy days was 3,12,14 and 7 in the month of June, July, August, September, respectively. Frequency distribution of rainfall indicates that 50.36% of rainfall is below 50 mm and 10.22% rainfall is above 300 mm. The month of July received 64.70% of rainfall which is more than 200 mm while August received 88.23% of the rainfall. December and January receive rainfall between 50-100 mm (15-16%) only. Rainfall received in November, February, March, April was quite low that is less than 50 mm. It has also been observed that rainfall during July, August and September, is mostly normal and out of 12 months October to May have 41% to 88% of drought months necessitating arranging for additional resources of water for agriculture. The amount of rainfall that is expected with 50% chances in month of June, July, August and September is 44.6, 207.8, 299.8 and 140.1 mm respectively.
