Quantitation of Mediators of Inflammation and Immunity in Genital Tract Secretions and Their Relevance to HIV Type 1 Transmission

In this article, methods for measuring genital tract white blood cell populations, immunoglobulins, cytokines, and other mediators of inflammation and immune defense are reviewed, and data are presented concerning levels of these factors in genital tract secretions from HIV-1-seronegative and -seropositive men and women.
